Ventec Life Systems Recognizes National Integrated Respiratory Care Week

April 7, 2020
April 7 through April 13 will mark the first-ever National Integrated Respiratory Care Week declared by the National Day Calendar®. The annual observance recognizes integrated respiratory care and the professionals, caregivers, and families committed to providing quality care to patients who depend on ventilators to breathe.

“This week is about recognizing the power of families, technology, and medical professionals coming together to maximize everyday living for ventilator users across the world,” said Chris Kiple, CEO of Ventec Life Systems. “The COVID-19 pandemic is a challenging time for our nation and the world. This national observance is a chance to reaffirm commitment to all ventilator users and to celebrate their families and caregivers. We hope this week shines a spotlight on the vital work done not just today, but every day in respiratory care.”

National Integrated Respiratory Care Week coincides with the anniversary of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) clearing VOCSN for approval on April 7, 2017. VOCSN, created by Ventec Life Systems, integrates five separate medical devices, including a ventilator, oxygen concentrator, cough assist, suction, and nebulizer, into one Multi-Function Ventilator. VOCSN is the first and only Multi-Function Ventilator designed to work from the hospital to the home for pediatric and adult patients across a range of conditions such as lung disease, muscular dystrophy, COPD, ALS, and other respiratory conditions requiring a ventilator.

Respiratory therapists and critical care ventilators are vital to the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  As Ventec partners with General Motors to mass-produce ventilators in response to COVID-19, we are reminded of the role technology continues to play in the absence of cures and the vital role of the true heroes - families and medical professionals who care for ventilator users every day.

Additionally, Ventec applauds the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service (CMS) for expanding patient and provider access to Multi-Function Ventilators through HCPCS E0467. Effective January 1, 2019, CMS established E0467 as a new code to enable the reimbursement of a single device that integrates a ventilator, portable oxygen concentrator, cough stimulator, suction, and nebulizer, which traditionally requires a separate piece of equipment for each therapy. VOCSN is the first and only device to qualify as a Multi-Function ventilator under HCPCS E0467, and recent changes implemented by CMS eliminate “same or similar” rules to expand access to Integrated respiratory care with Multi-Function ventilators for all ventilator dependent patients.

“As the first and only Multi-Function Ventilator, we recognize the importance of patient access to VOCSN and recent changes to E0467 ensure all patients can benefit from integrated respiratory care,” said Chris Kiple.

Ventec Life Systems is redefining respiratory care to improve patient outcomes and reduce caregiver challenges from the hospital to home. Ventec's leading product, VOCSN, is the first and only Multi-Function Ventilator that seamlessly integrates five devices - a critical care Ventilator, 6 L/min equivalent Oxygen concentrator, touch button Cough assist, hospital grade Suction, and a high-performance Nebulizer - into one integrated respiratory system that is lightweight and mobile. VOCSN is fully customizable to meet patient needs for pediatric and adult patients. Learn more at VentecLife.com and connect with Ventec on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.
