At the Movies

Movies are a great source of entertainment for those with limited mobility.

Lights, camera, roll… literally into the theater! Movies are a great source of entertainment for those with limited mobility. A trip to the movie theater is an activity that, unlike many others, does not require much extra planning to accommodate the ventilator. That does not mean, however, that my ventilator has gone entirely unnoticed.

One time I was waiting for a film to begin and another patron politely asked me if I could turn off my noisy machine. Not quite sure how to respond, I told him that I could turn it off, but then I would no longer be able to breathe, so it probably was not a good idea. The poor man was mortified to realize it was a life support device. I am not quite sure what he thought it was, but I felt bad for the man. Unfortunately, I know this is not a story unique to me. I recently read a similar story about the Barahona family in Texas who felt compelled to leave the movie after complaints from fellow patrons. I have also been told to silence my cell phone when, in fact, it was the LTV alarm indicating high pressure, or low battery power.

VOCSN to the rescue! Now, the hot-swappable batteries allow me to watch even the longest movie without running out of power, and the alarm volume adjustments allow me to quietly address whatever is occurring with VOCSN without disrupting other movie patrons. In addition to the noises from my old devices, people have asked me to turn off the lights on my ventilator too which was not in the realm of possibility. Now with the night mode offered on VOCSN, I can happily honor these requests.

The End … roll credits … and on to the next adventure!
